Primark helps grant over 250 wishes for Make-A-Wish® across Europe with €1.4m donation
Largest ever single corporate sum donated to Make-A-Wish in Europe
Primark has raised €1.4 million through sales of its Christmas jumper range for Make-A-Wish®, the charity that grants magical wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions.
The total raised was from one week of Primark Christmas jumper sales, with €2/£2 donated for each jumper. The jumpers were sold in the nine countries where Primark trades across Europe.
Two wish recipients, Bobby, age 4, living with Wilms Tumour and Taidgh, age 7, who was living with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, attended an event at Primark’s Head Office in Dublin yesterday to accept the cheque and thank Primark, its customers and staff on behalf of other wish children in Europe. Make-A-Wish granted Bobby’s wish to visit Disneyland® Resort Paris and Taidgh’s wish to swim with dolphins.
The money raised will help grant over 250 wishes to seriously ill children throughout Europe to children like Bobby and Taidgh. This is the largest single corporate sum ever raised for Make-A-Wish across Europe.
Neil Jones, Chief Executive at Make-A-Wish® UK said: “On behalf of my colleagues across Europe, I would like to thank Primark and its customers for this fantastic donation. We are thrilled with the record-breaking amount and their support really is invaluable. A wish is a lasting memory not just for the child or young person, but for their parents and siblings too; it can provide some much needed respite or simply give them some precious time together as a family.”
A Primark spokesperson said: “Primark is proud to support Make-A-Wish and we are delighted with the amount raised. We would like to thank all our customers and colleagues across Europe; the money raised will help bring much deserved happiness to the lives of children and young people facing life-threatening conditions.”

Notes to editors:
- Neil Jones, Chief Executive at Make-A-Wish UK, is available for interview.
- Primark Christmas jumpers were on sale in aid of Make-A-Wish® from December 6th to December 12th (inclusive) in from the following countries: Ireland, Spain, The Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Belgium Austria, France and the UK with €2/£2 donated from the sale of each jumper.
- Please note that Make-A-Wish does not use phrases such as ‘terminally ill’ in order to respect the sensitive nature of life-threatening conditions and what they mean to children and young people and their families. We would ask that this approach is followed and that the term ‘life-threatening conditions’ is used in material for publication.
Make-A-Wish® is a global children’s charity that operates in nearly 50 countries. Make-A-Wish® has one simple aim - to grant the wishes of children aged between 3 and 17 years living with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. A wish granted is true magic for the child, providing respite from their normal routines of hospitals, doctors and treatment. A wish is granted every 23 minutes around the world.
