Just after her third birthday, Demi began to feel unwell. She constantly had coughs and colds, her legs ached, and bruises started appearing on her face. When her ear began turning black, her family rushed her to hospital. On the 1st of November, they received the devastating news that Demi had acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL).
She began platelet therapy immediately, spending two months in treatment and three weeks in isolation away from her family- an incredibly difficult time for everyone. Then came chemotherapy, which left her immune system extremely weak. The first Christmas after her diagnosis, Demi could go home but she was far too unwell to enjoy the magic of the season. The following year, Christmas came and went while she remained in hospital.
Through all the pain and uncertainty, the one thing that brought Demi joy was princesses. They lit up her world during long hospital stays, offering comfort and distraction. She also loves shopping, so when it came time to choose her wish, she knew exactly what she wanted: 'to go on a princess shopping spree'. It was the perfect blend of her two favourite things, and a chance to let her imagination run wild
When Demi’s special day arrived, London became her royal kingdom. With her family by her side, she transformed into a princess and was treated like true royalty. From a luxurious stay at the stunning Nobu Hotel to strolling through glamorous shops, every moment was filled with wonder. Her smile never left her face as she created memories that will last a lifetime.
Reflecting on the magical experience, mum shared:
This December marks one year since Demi completed her treatment. While she’s made incredible progress, she’s still coping with the side effects and continues to have physiotherapy and regular hospital check-ups. Her family is now counting down the days to a long-awaited, joy-filled Christmas celebration together.
